Kathryn Dumke was born in Korbach, Germany, in 1954. Ms. Dumke worked as a farmer in Germany and Canada until 1990 before earning her law degree from Dalhousie University in 1992. Kathryn has since practiced on the South Shore of Nova Scotia and was appointed as Queen’s Counsel in 2017. 

In her spare time since coming to Nova Scotia, Ms. Dumke was one of the founding members of the South Shore Waldorf School Association and was instrumental in the opening of the province’s first Waldorf School in 1995.

Ms. Dumke is a former two-term President of the Lunenburg County Barristers’ Association and served as a member of Council of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society from 2010-2011. Kathryn is a member of the Advisory Committee on King’s Counsel Appointments, a member of the Board of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission, a member of Council of the Canadian Bar Association: Nova Scotia Branch, and is a member of the Board of Freeman House, which supports youth and families of all diversities, cultures, and LGBT2Q+ identities in the community.
